[kl-bogel] Athens museums

For some time I really enjoy going to museums, especially the good museums, where you can learn a lot. Since the time in Athens, I had enough and the weather is still most of the time was bad, the museums I visited there a lot. And what is positive: in all the museums I could afford to walk in the unhurried pace. Overall impression was good: of course, Athens' museums are to grow in terms of computerization and modernization, but in general, for the 2004 Olympics, many museums are well restored and upgraded, so now there is quite interesting and informative.

Mask of Agamemnon, the 2nd millennium BC, National Archaeological Museum of Athens

National Archaeological Museum of Athens - the classics of the genre, and unique must see even for a short visit to the city. There is no doubt considered the best and richest museums in the country, and its collection of ceramics and sculptures - one of the richest in the world. Ever since I was here for the first time 10-12 years ago, much of the museum changed for the better. Museum of the big time and it should be a lot.

From the memorable: a lot of funeral masks:

Several large booths with jewelry:

The darkness of interesting figures, unexpected, and sometimes unknown purpose:

That's not what this sculpture of Poseidon, Zeus, not that I remember more from first visit to Athens. The statue was found at the bottom of the sea, near the Greek coast. Sculptures in the museum in general is very, very much:

Several rooms devoted to ancient Egypt. No offense to Egypt will be discussed, but we must recognize that these rooms are much more informative than all the Egyptian Museum in Cairo with all its more valuable and impressive exhibits:

A lot of Greek vases, and I even did not have the power to bypass all the rooms with ceramics:

Positive theatrical masks:

Very memorable Hall of Cycladic Art - more precisely, small flat figures of idols with folded hands. It's pretty unusual statues: they have a flat wedge-shaped torso, large neck, a smooth face with a long nose. From the people of the Cyclades, who lived in the southern part of modern Greece in a 3-2 millennium BC, did not have much left.

Figurines impressed me so much that one day I specifically went to the Museum of Cycladic Art to look at a lot of positive statues of idols, and in general to learn more about this mysterious people:

Museum of Cycladic Art is not very big but very cozy. In a sense, there is much more comfortable and even more interesting than the huge halls of the National Archaeological Museum, where it is simply tired of the whole heap of information:

Gather a collection of Cycladic art once started one of the most distinguished couples in Greece - Nicholas and Dolly Gulandris. For the first time a private collection of the family shown in one of the exhibitions at the Museum Benaki in Athens. Collection immediately interested in major museums in London, Paris, Washington, Tokyo and Brussels ... Collection a few years traveling to different museums around the world. And in 1986, immediately after the death of her husband, Dolly Gulandris donated a collection of the state. Now Museum of Cycladic Art is located in a mansion Gulandris spouses who periodically expanding and being completed. In the lobby of the museum:

Another very famous private museum in Athens - Benaki Museum. I have it for some reason I love dearly and at the level of importance put on the second place after the National Archaeological Museum (though after the opening of the new Acropolis museum it probably will have to move into third place). It is the oldest and largest private museum in the country, as well as the Museum of Cycladic Art, was born from a private art collection of its founder - Anthony Benakisa.

The museum has a very large collection of icons:

Salaries:

A lot of interesting articles:

Shows the daily life of various times:

Against the background of the old interiors for some reason there were no wire mannequins people in modern clothes. What this meant, I still did not understand:

*

Another place with a large collection of ancient icons and church plate a certain period - the Byzantine Museum. Of the minuses - the majority of all information provided in the Greek language: English all very much short, and I personally did not have written. But in the museum you can see the interiors of ancient churches:

The collection - icons, utensils, old books, the details of the church interior and exterior trim:

Discovered in Athens Jewish Museum. He is very small and not near standing with the Jewish Museum in Berlin , but look at it was interesting.

*

And one of the smaller museums, which were able to visit - it is a museum of musical instruments. Highly specialized small museums I generally like, but here you can hear, touch, read what and how. And tired of information overload do not have time, because a small museum.

Photo finish this page in costume. This is not a military clothing, and national musical instrument. :) A large number of "coins" on the vest - to make music: they should hesitate and make sounds at the dance. Properly executed dance - the right tune. Until then comes the human imagination!
