[kl-bogel] 10 Things You’ll Love About the New Samsung Galaxy S II

Samsung Galaxy S II

Recently launched in Malaysia, the super sleek Samsung Galaxy S II is Samsung's latest flagship smartphone powered by a dual-core processor and running Google Android Gingerbread 2.3.3. There's plenty of things to love about it as I've learned while reviewing it, (also proven by the 3 million pre-bookings and 1 million unit sales worldwide), but here are 10 most absolute things. Read on.

The AMOLED's a big plus

The SG S II's fantastic new Super AMOLED Plus display is crisp and vivid, and packs double the amount of subpixels found on its Super AMOLED-only predecessor. The responsive capacitative touchscreen protected by Gorilla Glass is 4.27-inch wide, supporting a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. The display is absolutely made for playing games and watching HD videos. Top stuff.

8-Megapixels of Capture Fun

One thing that really packs a punch is the 8MP rear camera with autofocus and LED flash. It's snappy, sharp and even records videos in full 1080p HD at 30fps. Beautiful. It has come very handy during outings and especially at events. Who needs a separate HD video cam these days? Not when the SG S II is around. Low light photography is pretty good too. The front facing camera is 2MP, sufficient for video-calling and occasional camwhore beauty shots! Sweet. Also good to note that the camera shutter is quick to respond and recover. Big plus indeed.

Long-lasting Goodness

If there's one thing that's irksome about many smart devices these days is the battery life, or lack of. Thankfully, the SG S II comes with a massive 1650mAH power pack that has given me full day of abuse without much complaint. Despite punishing it with calls, SMSes, WhatsApp-ing, Twitter-ing, Facebook-ing, web-browsing, photography and more, the phone truly impresses.

High-Speed Internet

The SG S II is a quad-band phone, but most importantly supports HSPA+ which supports data speeds of up to 21 Mbps. Where supported, I've experienced high download speeds making web browsing, uploading photos to Flickr, picplz, Facebook and Twitter a snap. Also makes downloading and installing apps a much quicker experience.

Double the Speed, Double the Fun

The 1.2Ghz dual-core Exynos processor complementing the Mail-400MP GPU is blazing. I'm super spoiled by the responsiveness. Switching apps and app launch times are instantaneous. This is what a phone should be. No lags and no waiting. Outstanding.

Sex in your hands

If sexy black doesn't turn you on, then its 8.49mm ultra-thin side profile and the featherlight 116g weight will. It feels great in your hands and being so thin and light, feels great in your pockets as well. No more lugging around that brick, I tell you.

Don't Type, just Swype

Swype is pretty revolutionary in terms of user experience. 'Typing' feels so last century. The SG S II comes with the latest version of Swype. Once you get the hang on it, you'll never turn back. It's fast, intuitive and probably the best thing since sliced bread (with some butter).

Hubcentricity

Samsung has made it easy to do many things without you having to download more apps. They've preinstalled Social Hub, Readers Hub, Music Hub and Game Hub which are apps that integrate different services into one app. For instance, Social Hub integrates Facebook, Twitter and even email. No need for 3 separate apps to check on updates and streams. Neat.

Connect, Connect, Connect

Connect, interact and share to different devices with built-in apps like Kies 2.0 and Kies Air which gives you the ability to synch your data, media and files to your PC with or without wires. Very neat. AllShare (DLNA) lets your view your media on other devices like digital/SMART TVs.

Smart Pricing

At RM2,099, the Samsung Galaxy S II also sets a new trend – the cheaper, more affordable smartphone. Despite being top-of-the-line, it costs lower than some lower-specced competitors. A brilliant strategy that will pay off in the long run.

Looking for a new smartphone to replace that aging one in your hands right now? Look no further :)
